President's Message

“We can’t rest until our good becomes our better and our better becomes our best”

As we embark upon 2009, the reflections of a historic 2008 must be inspiring. I see the emergence of even greater commitment toward uplift in our community, and renewed emphasis on unified action. “Facing the rising sun” of opportunity and triumph realized this past year, exposes the vast capabilities that are within our grasp. “Of our new day begun” when our citizenry embraced a Black Man as commander and chief, the most powerful position of the free world, who delivering the message “yes we can” proved that competent confidence transcends race, bigotry, and prejudice. The celebration that ensued after the election, and the seal of victory to come during the inauguration, establishes unquestionable validity that yes, a Black Man can lead, will lead, and must lead.

Our job is simple. For years we have been faced with conditions in our lives that would cause the average man to surrender. For years we have overcome personal obstacles to join with other “like minded” men to do our part to improve society. This consistent movement in unity is truly a reflection of the dynamic attitude “let us march on” which has been the mantra of Alpha Men for over 100 years in America. Our responsibility requires a fundamental understanding that “first of all, servants of all, we shall transcend all” and demands complete commitment in the spirit of Brotherly love. Our lives have and will inspire generations by the lasting legacy of our efforts, manifested in various forms like the annual Founder’s Day Brunch and the Alpha Academy. “Lives once touched by me are tuned and thereafter amiable, kindly, fraternal” and gives way to the discipline of living on purpose “til victory is won.”

The fighting mantra during the year 2008 did indeed prove that “yes we can”; consequently, our new fight song for 2009 will be “NOW WE MUST.”

Yours in the bond of Brotherhood,

John W. Taylor
